Dear Kindergarten Families,
The Lexington Kindergarten Standards-based Report card is one of many tools parents can use to see how their child is doing in school. This report card is only a snapshot of where your child is right now, not where he or she will be by the end of the year. Most five and six year-olds are beginning to demonstrate these skills some or most of the time and it is not uncommon for some children to require additional support as they are developing new skills. No two children are exactly alike and each child develops at his or her own pace. This report is intended to give you a picture of your own child's development. Your kindergartner is a work-in-progress and will continue to develop skills as the year progresses. Mastering skills takes time and occurs most often when children have had repeated exposure and time to practice and deepen their understanding about the concepts and skills we are working on. A report card is an abstract tool, and most kindergartners are concrete thinkers. Please celebrate your child’s successes and offer support in areas where they are growing.
The focus of the first report card is on your child's transition to kindergarten. It highlights Personal Development/Classroom and Community Skills as well as your child’s Approach to Learning. A more complete academic report will come at the end of the year. We will meet again for Parent-Teacher conferences in April, however please know that we will continue to update you on your child’s progress or any areas that may be of concern.
Please feel free to contact us if you have any questions or concerns regarding your child's report. We look forward to working together with you to make your child's kindergarten experience the best it can be!
Most Sincerely,
The Kindergarten Team
