Dear Families,
Many of you have requested information about the concepts we are working on in class, and ways your child can continue to explore and work on these concepts at home. In response to this, we are in the process of creating monthly task cards that will highlight some of the important skills/concepts we are working on in school. We hope you are able to use these cards to extend learning and continue practice of these skills at home.
Tips for using the task cards:
· Display task card in a place where you and your child can look at it together. Read over tasks and choose specific ones to work on.
· Look for natural opportunities to fold concept practice into daily home routines (ex. work on letter identification when you are reading together or writing, practice counting silverware as you unload the dishwasher, count and sort coins, go on a number hunt around the house, practice writing numbers and identifying them as you find them, notice when your child is being flexible and compliment him/her, the possibilities are endless).
· Always try to make it fun and stop if you feel your child is no longer engaged in the activity.
· Repeated practice will help your child build a strong foundation for new skills to grow on.
· At the end of the month, sit with your child and color off the concepts she/he really understands. If there are any he/she seems shaky on, leave them blank (we will continue practice on these at school too).
We are excited about this opportunity to partner with you on your child’s educational journey. We understand and value that each child is unique and develops at his/her own individual pace. It is not expected that children will master these skills at the exact same time.
We are using these for the first time and would love your ideas and feedback. Please feel free to contact us if you have any concerns or questions about the tasks or need suggestions to practice them!
Most Sincerely, The Hastings Kindergarten Team
